The following article is designed to walk the user through the steps involved in setting up an override for a term grade entry.  Creating a Teacher Portal Grade Book override will allow a teacher to go into a term that is closed and allow them to enter/edit grades for assignments.  It will not allow a teacher to create new assignments for that term.

Resolution

Administration

  1. In the Admin Portal, go to Grade Book > Admin Functions > Grant or Remove Override Privileges.

  2. The following window will open.

  1. Select the marking period(s) to grant the override for.  Up to four marking periods can be selected.

  2. (Optional)  An expiration date can be set.  By setting an expiration date, the administration will not have to return to this operation to clear privileges assigned.

  3. Select the teachers to give the override to.  This is done by checking the box by the teacher’s name.

  4. Click Assign Privileges.  The following message will display:

  1. Click OK.

  2. Note:  Depending on the browser you are using, you may see the additional text (as pictured below): Prevent this page from creating additional dialogs.  Do NOT check the box!  This will block all popups from the Admin Portal.  This is a browser function and you may or may not see this.

Teachers

  1. In the Teacher Portal, select the course to apply the override to.A teacher has the ability to create an override for any of their students for the term they were granted an override for.  Go to Grade Book > Grade Book Operations > Assign/Remove Grade Override.

  2. Go to Grade Book > Grade Book Operations > Assign/Remove Grade Override.

  1. Check the Override box next to the students that need the override.

  2. Click Submit Changes.

  3. Repeat for other courses.

  4. Go to Grade Book > Summary Grid.

  5. Select the marking period for the override.

  6. Check the box for Override Only.  Now the student list is filtered on only those students the teacher has selected to grant the override.

  7. Enter/edit assignment grades.  The override will not allow for new assignments to be created.

  1. Go to Grade Book > Assign Grades > Override Past Marking Period Average.

  2. Select the marking period.

  3. Only those students granted the override will be displayed.  If necessary, the term grade can be edited, comment codes and teacher note can be entered.
